1st December

Well it has arrived ... the month I loath and detest. The month of pressure ... pressure at work and home. Pressure to so many people that means going into debt to "keep up with the Jones" ... not that I do it. Not many people celebrate it for the right reason - so wny do we extend ourselves just to look good.

Reading back that last passage sounds very negative. I actually like Christmas, just dont like all the rubbish that goes with it. One of the best Christmas days I have experienced as an adult was a few years back when I drove up from Wellington on the 24th and Mum, Dad and I went for a picnic up the Motu. Dad showed us where his grandparents lived and ran the local store. We visited the church and cemetery had ham sammies - it was a great day.

As a kid the best part of Christmas was the meal. Yummy stuff that Mum would make. She was a legend with her meals - when I think about it now she did all that by herself. We would get one big present each and a parcel of goodies - it was great fun. When we had Christmas over here at Grandads we would go to the beach for BBQ's and also go to the Hot Pools every night after dinner. Good summer days.

I hated it when the family from Hamilton would come out because it meant we had to wait to open our presents. One time they did not get there until 11 oclock - can you imagine kids having to hold out for that! All I remember is Mum and Dad having an argument about it - it was Dads lot! The next year we opened our presents at breakfast. We had breakfast with the Licences and opened them - it was a far better situation.

One tradition that Mum started was a box of chocloates. Every year we got a little box of chocolates in our stash. No matter what. Anyway, one year (when we are adults) we did not get a box of chocloates ... well we certainly let it be known that that was not acceptable! Mum thought it hilarious that her grown children would rather have a box of chocloates than anything else.

Anyway, I have gone on abit here.

Three workmates resigned yesterday ... I am annoyed that they got in before me!
